Coldplay development
How a star’s image develops over time through music videos?
I am analysing Coldplay. The band were formed in 1996 by Chris Martin the lead vocalist and pianist and Jonny Buckland lead guitarist. They originally formed under the name Pectoralz. Then Guy Berryman joined as a bassist and they changed again to Starfish. Then Will Champion joined as a drummer and backing vocalist. Creative director is referred to as a fifth member of the band. The band named themselves “Coldplay” in 1998 before they recorded their EP’s the same year. The music genres are alternative rock, post-Britpop, pop rock, pop and piano rock.
There early image showed them as unique not only with the music they made but also with the way they made videos. It had under water shoots and it was all filmed on a hand held camera. They also had furniture on the beach this would have made the video stand out. The video doesn't really tell a story that goes with the lyrics.
The main thing that has changed in there videos is that they now show them performing. Also they use some CGI on some of there video, they always put themselves in the video sometimes only at the end in on all they way through lip syncing. The only video that doesn’t have any of the band in is 'Adventure of A Lifetime'. The band are known for appearing at the end of all the video's that have character that aren't them in them.
They tend to have close up of the main singer then they would pan out. There hair doesn’t really change as they have it cut short so they can't style it. Costume's tend to be casual as they don’t have video's that have them need to be dressed up. They show them to be kind also that they are sad and are only happy when preforming.
They have close up's when they are sad and it make it feel personal. The editing makes it look brighter when they are performing or if the video shows people other then the band. When the video only has the band they have in black and white or the make it have less colour or it is filmed at night. This makes the viewer feel that they are sad but and are only happy when they are making others happy with there music.

In conclusion the bands biggest change is who they have in there music video and how they now use CGI. A thing that hasn’t changed is how they use filters in the video to make it look older. They use brighter colours now and they also put there actors in their videos. The band also have other singing in there video as in the song.
